EU seeks to provide Morocco with assurances before Court decision on fisheries agreement

14/03/2017 (Agence Europe)The European ambassador in Morocco, Rupert Joy, is seeking to provide reassurances to the Moroccan people awaiting a final decision from the court of Justice of the EU on the fisheries agreement with the European Union (C-104/16 P), (see EUROPE 1741). In an interview with local media (‘Le Reporter’ on 13/03/2017) he provided a slight insight into the interpretation that the European Commission is expected to give on the basis of the complaint filed by Polisario: “The fisheries agreement is a different legal text from that on agriculture” (which has already been decided) and contains “different precisions”. The Court has not yet confirmed this opinion. Mr Rupert cautiously asserted, however, that he did not want to create any “hypothetical scenarios” and confirmed at the same time that a solution had not yet been found. He explained that dialogue with Rabat is continuing in a calm and constructive climate and this will continue until they agreed upon the necessary arrangements. (FB)
