10/03/2017 (Agence Europe) – Since the launch, in December 2015, of the EU Internet Forum, bringing together the giants of the internet to fight online radicalisation, around 90% of the content flagged up by Europol has been removed, the European Commission announced in a press release published following the visit to Silicon Valley, on Thursday 9 March, of several European officials, including Commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, the Maltese home affairs minister, Carmelo Abela, and the EU anti-terrorism coordinator, Gilles de Kerchove. “However, while terrorist content by some terrorist groups is on the decline, other violent extremist groups are seeking to increase their online presence. Tackling this challenge, while protecting the Union's fundamental values of freedom of speech, remains at the forefront of our EU counter terrorism efforts”. (SP)
