02/02/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 2 February, Transparency International (TI) revealed that the European Commission was not going to publish the second report on corruption in the EU as planned. The NGO took as its basis a letter sent on 25 January to the European Parliament by the Vice-President of the Commission, Frans Timmermans, who said that even though the first edition of the report, in 2014, had been very useful, "this does not necessarily mean that a continued succession of similar reports in the future would be the best way to proceed". He feels that a better approach would be to continue to promote anti-corruption practices by means of the 'European Semester' budgetary process. With this approach, the Commission is sending a clear message that fighting corruption is "no longer a political priority and only a serious problem in a minority of member states", said the director of TI EU, Carl Dolan.
