16/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – European Commission proposals for re-organising the EU energy market, unveiled at the end of last year as part of the clean energy package (see EUROPE 11679), were the focus of a workshop devoted to transitioning the energy sector on the side-lines of the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Monday 16 January. The event, part of a series of European Union Energy Days launched at COP 22 in Marrakesh, gave the Commission the opportunity to share and discuss its proposals for a new electricity market design and for a revised renewable energy directive in an international context. The Abu Dhabi summit followed the 7th session of the Assembly the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on 14-15 January, devoted this year to innovation and energy access, at which the Commission highlighted its efforts to support the growth of renewable energy outside the EU, with particular focus on the EU’s Africa investment facility.
