09/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, sought to change tack on Monday 9 January, pledging that she wanted the United Kingdom to remain in the single European market after the country leaves the European Union. The day before, she reaffirmed that its withdrawal from the EU would be total and that its country would not keep any single piece of the EU, describing her priority as managing immigration. These words gave rise to a flurry of criticism, as May was once again accused of preferring the option of a hard Brexit. On Monday, she finally took pains to clarify her ideas, dismissing the notions of hard or soft Brexit and setting the objective of securing a fair, ambitious and optimum agreement for the United Kingdom in terms of negotiations with and within the European single market.
