09/01/2017 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 9 January, European External Action Service spokesperson Maja Kocijancic said the EU was following the situation in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) closely. Nikola Gruevski from the Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE) was due to be asked the same day to form a new government. Three Albanian parties have agreed on common requirements, particularly the establishment of bilingualism (Macedonian and Albanian) at national level in order to form a coalition with the VMRO-DPMNE –which cannot govern alone. "We expect the swift formation of a new stable government within the time limits provided for by the Constitution", Kocijancic told press. She underlined the "urgent need" for reforms to be implemented that take account of systemic questions regarding the rule of law and previous political agreements. (CG)
