Over the period from January to October 2016, the first-sales value of fisheries products increased compared with the same period last year in Denmark, Lithuania, Portugal and the United Kingdom, according to the latest report by the European Market Observatory on Fisheries and Aquaculture products, published on Thursday 22 December.
In Denmark, first sales increased in value by 12% compared with January-October 2015 while volume fell by 8%. The increase in prices for common shrimp (up 160%), plaice (up 14%), herring (up 26%) and hake (up 8%) all contributed to the increase in value.
For France, January-October 2016 saw a slight fall in first-sales volume (down 3%) but the value remained stable compared with January-October 2015.
In Italy, first sales decreased in both value (down 2%) and volume (down 11%) from the same period in 2015. The decrease in value was mainly due to decreases in the price of octopus (down 19%), Norway lobster (down 18%), and red mullet (down 11%).
The report indicates that in October 2016, first-sales value of mackerel went up in France and Norway, but decreased in Denmark, Portugal, and the UK. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
