On Friday 16 December, the European Commission put a new statistical tool online which enables the geographical division of countries across Europe that export to the USA to be visualised.
The 'EU-US trade in your town' database enables users to see where companies are, what the most exported products are from a given region, or to where they are exported in the US. The tool also provides information on each town's overall contribution to US export-related jobs. EU exports to the US support nearly 5 million jobs in the EU.
The Commission explains that users of the tool will be able to find answers to questions such as: what are the most popular exports from Finnish Lapland, to the US? What is Thessaloniki's share of all Greek jobs that are linked to exports to the US? And which American towns import products from Brussels, Belgium?
Overall, more than 180,000 European companies currently export to the US, and almost 90% of them are SMEs with less than 250 employees. These companies would be the first beneficiaries of improved trade relations between the EU and the US, the Commission continues.
