Council refuses to approve official freezing of negotiations – Austria isolated

On Tuesday 13 December, European affairs ministers were unable to adopt conclusions on Turkey due to the staunch opposition of Austria.

The Austrian minister, Sebastian Kurz, insisted on formally including the freezing of accession negotiations with Turkey in the Council's conclusions, which was unanimously rejected by his 27 counterparts.
