Mogherini  takes stock of migration pacts at the Council ahead of her second report to the Summit

In Brussels on Monday 28 November, the European ministers and ambassadors of the member states to the EU were given a status report on the partnerships on migration for Africa launched by the EU in June of this year, aiming to stem migratory pressure by encouraging the countries of origin and transit to keep their populations at home.

The High Representative of the EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, who was chairing a meeting of the 'Foreign Affairs' Council in its development format, stressed, as she also did in October, that these partnerships were already paying off (see EUROPE 11648).

"I updated the development ministers on the state of play on the migration compacts with the African countries in view of the December European Summit, where I will present my second report", Mogherini said after the session.

These migration partnerships, which are financed by the emergency trust fund for Africa, follow on from the EU/Africa Summit of Valetta of November 2015, which dealt solely with the issue of migration. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
