09/11/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 9 November, the European Parliament’s fisheries committee approved the compromise text after agreement was reached among the three EU institutions on changes to the 2008 regulation establishing a long-term management plan for cod stocks (see EUROPE 11636). The new rules will come into force from 1 January 2017. Negotiators reached agreement on a compromise at a trialogue meeting at the end of June 2016 (see EUROPE 11584). The new rules will end the current fishing effort regime. The European Parliament still has to give (second reading) approval of the Council position in plenary session for the text to be definitively adopted. (LC)
