17/10/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 15 October, the European Union denounced a terrorist attack the previous day on a border post in northern Sinai, Egypt. Twelve soldiers were killed and six injured. The attack was claimed by so-called Islamic State (Daesh). The spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a press release that this attack "is a tragic reminder of the continuing terrorist threat to Egypt that threatens its stability". The spokesperson also stated that the EU stands by the Egyptian people and government in their fight against Daesh, which is an "important part of the broader fight against Daesh in the region". (CG)
