At a public debate at the Ecofin Council that took place in Luxembourg on Tuesday 11 October, the finance ministers were, give or take a few nuances, mostly opposed to including VAT fraud in the scope of application of the directive on protecting the EU's financial interests.
European Commissioner for Justice Věra Jourová started the debate by pointing out that serious cases of VAT fraud were often carried out at cross-border level.
