European Parliament vetoes authorisation for cultivation of three varieties of transgenic maize including MON 810

On Thursday 6 October in Strasbourg, the European Parliament rejected the European Commission project to authorise the cultivation in the EU of Syngenta Bt11, Dupont Pioneer 1507 and Monsanto MON810 maize (for which the Commission is proposing authorisation renewal).  The EP also objected to authorising imports of MON 810-based foodstuffs and products containing a glyphosate resistant transgenic cotton.
