28/9/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 28 September, the car manufacturers AUDI AG, BMW Group, Daimler AG and telecom component part manufacturers Ericsson, Huawei, Intel, Nokia and Qualcomm Incorporated announced that they had set up the "5G Automotive Association". This initiative follows the publication by the Office of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications of its guidelines on net neutrality (see EUROPE 11612) and the adoption by the European Commission of its action plan for introducing 5G as from 2020 (see EUROPE 11624). The 5G Association will seek to "evolve, test and promote communications solutions for connected mobility, as well as support standardisation and speed up commercial availability and global market penetration". It will focus on society connected mobility and road safety needs, such as connected automated driving, total access to integration services in smart cities and intelligent transport systems. (SPj)
