On Wednesday 28 September, the European Commission approved two grants worth a total amount of €600 million to help refugees and host communities in Turkey in the domains of education and health.
A sum of €300 million will go to education and the other €300 million to health. The funds come from the budget for the Facility for Refugees in Turkey, and are part of the €1.415 billion special measure adopted by the Commission at the end of July (see EUROPE 11603).
According to the Commission, the grants will help cover the costs for healthcare services for Syrian refugees and their children in Turkey. The grant for education should enable around 500,000 Syrian students to receive compulsory education in the Turkish language. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
