13/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – At the opening of Climate Diplomacy Week, an event being celebrated by embassies throughout the world (12-18 September), EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini pointed out on Monday 12 September that "Europe's security and prosperity are linked to the challenges we face due to climate change and the degradation of our environment". With the EU still not having ratified the Paris Agreement, European Commissioner for Climate Action and Energy Miguel Arias Cañete underlined that "the EU's ratification of the Paris Agreement would demonstrate solidarity and unity in these challenging times". He acknowledged, however, that "the EU has a proven track record of commitment to climate action and the policies in place to meet our commitments". (AN)
