13/09/2016 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 13 September, the 28 members of the European Court of Auditors (ECA) decided to elect Klaus-Heiner Lehne (a German national and former MEP) to the post of President of ECA for a three-year renewable mandate. Lehne will become the 11th president of ECA on 1 October and will replace Vítor Caldeira, who has held the post since 2008. As part of the consultation in the Court's appointment procedure, the European Parliament rejected the nomination of the Maltese candidate, Leo Brincat, on Tuesday, as a member of the ECA but approved the appointments of João Figueiredo from Portugal Lazaros S. Lazarou from Cyprus. It will be up to the Council to decide by qualified majority voting on the nominations. (LC)
