On Thursday 8 September, the S&D Group at the European Parliament called for an extra €530 million in the EU's 2017 budget to step up the fight against the underlying causes of the refugee crisis.
The money, included in an amendment prior to the votes of the parliamentary committee on budgets and of the plenary session, will come on top of the funding already earmarked by the European Commission in the draft 2017 budget(see EUROPE 11614).
