EU highlights clear anomalies in presidential election and calls for recount

There is no doubt for EU observers that the presidential elections in Gabon on 27 August that led to the re-election of Ali Bongo with fewer than 6,000 votes more than his opponent, Jean Ping, is stained with irregularities of a type that undermine voter confidence and that requires a recounting of the votes.
