30/08/2016 (Agence Europe) – In the evening on Monday 29 August, a spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS) said that the terrorist attack claimed by Islamic State in Aden earlier that day showed the importance of peace in Yemen. The attack from a booby trapped car killed at least 17 people and left 98 wounded among the new recruits to the army. "These attacks highlight the importance of restoring peace and the rule of law throughout the country through a negotiated political settlement, enabling decisive and resolute action against terrorist groups that pose a direct internal and external threat", the EEAS spokesperson said in a press release. Since March 2015 Yemen has been prey to a conflict pitching loyalist forces against Houthi rebels. The spokesperson also underlined the EU's strong commitment and determination to help the people of Yemen "counter the threat of extremist and terrorist groups". (CG)
