In the second quarter of 2016, seasonally-corrected GDP rose by 0.3% in the eurozone and 0.4% in the European Union compared with the first quarter of the year, according to estimates published by the EU’s statistical office, Eurostat, on Friday 12 August.
Performance varies among the 20 member states for which data is available. GDP growth was strongest in Romania (+1.5%), Hungary (+1.1%) and Poland and Slovakia (both +0.9%). It was strong in Spain (+0.7%), sustained in the United Kingdom (+0.6%) and encouraging in Greece (+0.3%). It was zero in France, Italy and Austria.
