Brussels, 11/07/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 11 July, the Business Alliance for TTIP said it expected “critical progress” at the 14th round of negotiations in Brussels this week for the transatlantic trade and investment partnership agreement (TTIP). This round could be a “turning point” in the negotiations towards an agreement in 2016, according to the Business Alliance for TTIP.
“Expectations from the business community are high that it will yield results that will make it possible to reach a common understanding on all sensitive areas before the end of the year”, the alliance states, underlining that “a constructive and creative approach” is needed to breach the current gaps in the most thorny positions - services, public procurement, agriculture, regulatory cooperation at the horizontal and sectoral levels, and geographical indications.
“Businesses of all sizes, as well as workers, consumers and citizens in both the EU and the US could benefit from an agreement that improves trade and investment between the world's two largest markets and sets global standards”, the alliance states.
The Business Alliance for TTIP brings together BusinessEurope, the Trans-Atlantic Business Council, AmCham EU, Eurocommerce, Eurochambres, the European Round Table of Industrialists, and the European Services Forum. (Original version in French by Emmanuel Hagry)
