30/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU to earmark additional €1.4 billion for refugees. On Thursday 30 June, the European Commission proposed to earmark an additional €1.4 billion to fund humanitarian projects refugees in Turkey, as part of the application of the agreement between the EU and Turkey in November 2015 for managing the migration crisis. In total, €2 billion out of the total envelope promised for 3 billion for 2016 in 2017 (possibly renewable), is expected to be released by the end of July, explained the Commission. The €1.4 billion will go to funding projects in education, health, municipal and social infrastructure and socio-economic support. Out of the initial envelope of €3 billion, €740 million has been allocated so far for humanitarian and non-humanitarian aid. (SP)
