23/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament observes minute's silence in tribute to several victims. On Wednesday 22 June, before the plenary session in Brussels got underway, the members of the European Parliament observed a minute's silence, particularly in tribute to the British MP Jo Cox, who was murdered on 16 June (see EUROPE 11574), but also to the 49 victims of the killings of 13 June in Orlando (United States), which particularly affected the LGBTI community, and to the two French police officers murdered in Magnanville on the same day. The President of the EP, Martin Schulz, said that many people “knew Jo from the time when she worked in the European Parliament (as an assistant to the MEP Glenys Kinnock: Ed) and remember her as a woman of high ideals, who stood up for others”. “We must unite to fight against the hatred that killed Jo”, he said.
