17/06/2015 (Agence Europe) - Directive on technical requirements for inland waterway vessels adopted at Council. On Thursday 16 June, the Employment, Social Affairs, Health and Consumers Council adopted a draft directive on technical requirements for inland waterway vessels. The directive makes provision for a European authorisation certification for inland waterway vessels based on the standards developed by the new European committee for drawing up standards in the field of inland navigation (CESNI) (see EUROPE 11333). A statement from the United Kingdom explained that it had abstained from this decision because it believes that the use of delegated act for implementing new standards is disproportionate and an implementing act would have been more appropriate. One of our sources informed us that this delegated act would mean greater influence being exerted by the European Parliament. (PH)
