13/06/2016 (Agence Europe) -Mogherini welcomes Pedro Pablo Kuczynski's victory. On Saturday 11 June, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, said that she was delighted that she would be able to work together in the future with the new Peruvian President, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, on a range of subjects such as trade, climate change and the fight against drug trafficking. In the second round of the Presidential elections that took place at the beginning of June, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski obtained 40,000 votes more than Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of the former Peruvian President, Alberto Fujimori. The latter was condemned to 25 years in prison in 2009 for crimes against humanity and corruption. According to Ms Mogherini, the report by the Election Observation Mission headed by Renate Weber (ALDE, Romania) constitutes "valuable support to necessary electoral reforms, further strengthening the Peruvian democracy".
