Luxembourg, 09/06/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 9 June in Luxembourg, EU Ministers for Justice made progress on the parameters of the future European Prosecutor's Office. They gave their political support to almost 71 articles in the draft regulation, without, however, at this stage, voting for a general approach.
The articles concerned cover rules on the system for managing dossiers and data protection, as well as rules on simplified procedures for legal pursuits and the general and financial provisions on staff matters.
The regulation setting up the European Prosecutor's Office proposed in 2013 by the European Commission seeks to tackle infringements that can damage the EU's financial interest. The United Kingdom immediately decided not to participate in this initiative and the number of participating countries is still uncertain. Ireland and Denmark have their respective derogations on this text. Unanimity is also required on this dossier.
The aim is still to reach an agreement on the draft by the end of 2016. (Original version in French by Solenn Paulic)
