25/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU welcomes completion of inter-Burundian dialogue in Arusha. On Tuesday evening 24 May, the European Union welcomed the conclusion of the inter-Burundian dialogue in Arusha (Tanzania, 21-24 May) and said that it helped to open the way to a way out of the crisis in Burundi. In a press release, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, said "The engagement by representatives of both Government and opposition in Arusha opens the way to a credible dialogue amongst all Burundian stakeholders". The EU praised the "personal commitment" of the former president of Tanzania, Benjamin Mkapa, in his role as facilitator and who had played a decisive role in achieving this result. The High Representative said "All sides should seize this opportunity and engage actively in the process in good faith and without delay" in the regional dialogue demanded by the Heads of State and East African Community.
