03/05/2016 (Agence Europe) - Bienkowska meets Google Europe President. Internal Market Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska formally raised a number of points during her meeting with Matt Brittin, President of Google Europe: - increasing online trading and the role of digital platforms within the digital single market, including parcel delivery; - the digitisation of industry and the role of business in the digital transition, such as the internet of things and connected cars (on which an initial European declaration has been made - see EUROPE 11533 and 11532); - European Commission initiatives on start-ups; and space technologies. The meeting took place at a time when relations between the Commission and the US giant are troubled. Recently, the Commission has accused Google of abusing its dominant position, by imposing restrictions on Android device manufacturers and mobile network operators (see EUROPE 11536). (PH)
