On Monday 25 April, the MEP Marc Tarabella (S&D, Belgium) announced that he had been authorised to hold a public hearing at the European Parliament on 14 July on the agricultural plank of the EU/United States free-trade negotiations (TTIP), to be attended by “European officials”. In view of the assessment by the American authorities that European agriculture will achieve either a slight benefit or possibly a loss from the TTIP. Tarabella asked the President of the Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, for explanations in early January, demanding that the transatlantic negotiations be put on ice (see EUROPE 11461). (EH)
