05/04/2016 (Agence Europe) - EU calls on all parties for restraint following disputed presidential election. The European Union is concerned about the violence that broke out in Brazzaville on Monday 4 April following the presidential election won by Denis Sassou-Nguesso, and has called on all parties for restraint. “The events that took place in Brazzaville today bring risks for Congo's stability in this post-electoral period, while awaiting confirmation of the results by the constitutional court”, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said in a press release on Monday evening. The EU “calls on all the key actors to show restraint, to refrain from alls acts of violence and to resolve their disagreements peacefully and in respect of the law”, Mogherini's spokesperson added, saying that “violence cannot be the answer to the challenges” the country if facing.
