23/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - UfM says regional integration would improve water resources. During World Water Day on Tuesday 22 March, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) emphasised the importance of this natural resource and what it intended to do to protect it in a context where the south side of the Mediterranean is one of the areas in the world where water shortages “affect more than 150 million people”. To rectify this increasing shortage, it is proposing “better regional integration” as a way of improving the management of water resources in the Mediterranean. The aim is to have more water and better jobs through increased cooperation and integration as sources of more humane development and stability in the Mediterranean. The UfM indicates that it “will set up 15 projects specifically focusing on sustainable development that are worth almost €4 billion in investments that will benefit the region”. (FB)
