Brussels, 23/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 22 March, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said that Jordan was one of the EU's strongest partners.
“We have a strong friendship, and let me say that Jordan is for the European Union one of the strongest, if not the strongest partner, on so many different issues”, she said at a press conference in Amman with Jordan's Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Judeh. Mogherini highlighted the cooperation on the issue of Syria, including the management of refugees and cooperation on the Palestinian question.
“We are partners and (…) Jordan is a very precious partner in what today would be probably more relevant to all Europeans, which is the anti-radicalisation work”, Mogherini stated, adding that it was important to have dialogue and cooperation in the region and in Europe.
Speaking about the terrorist attacks in Brussels the same day, Mogherini said that the EU and Jordan were united, not only in the suffering of the victims, but also in the response to these acts and in the prevention of radicalisation and violence.
Very moved when speaking about the Brussels attacks, Mogherini left the press conference in tears at the end of her introductory statement. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
