Brussels, 22/03/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 23 March, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Ibrahim Abdel-Karim Allam, condemned the bomb attacks that had taken place in Brussels earlier that morning, and called for strengthened cooperation to fight terrorism.
“This terrorism that has struck, we all suffer from it (…) This terrorism knows no limits of nationality or country. It affects us all. We must combine our efforts. It's high time we went hand in hand and worked together. Today is the right time for us to work together”, he told the European Parliament's foreign affairs committee. “We are all in the same boat. We must help each other”, the Grand Mufti stated, saying that “terrorism must be fought by all means possible”. “It threatens young people, society and institutions”, he added.
“We will continue to invest the utmost in dismantling terrorism on the intellectual and religious level, in order to dismantle the bases of this terrorism”, he said. “It is our responsibility to spread the good vision of Islam so that the world understands it”, he added.
The Grand Mufti said that the region most affected by terrorism was the “region of Muslim countries”. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
