23/02/2016 (Agence Europe) - Belgium suspends Schengen. On Tuesday 23 February, Belgium decided to temporarily re-establish controls at its border with France, in response to the French project to dismantle the “jungle” in Calais, where thousands of illegal migrants are attempting to get into England. During a press conference, the Belgian interior minister, Jan Jambon, said: “We have informed the European Commission that we are temporarily going to depart from the Schengen rules”. Belgium has already decided to step up its police patrols in Zeebrugge, the port through which migrants are also trying to get into the United Kingdom. (SP)
