On Monday 22 February, the European Commissioner for Migration and Home Affairs, Dimitris Avramopoulos, inaugurated the new European Migrant Smuggling Centre (EMSC) at the premises of Europol in The Hague. A press release explained that the EMSC had been announced as part of the European Migration Agenda in May 2015 and aims to provide assistance to member states in their fight against criminal trafficking networks.
