22/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - European Parliament calls for new international sanctions. In a resolution adopted on Thursday 21 January at its plenary session in Strasbourg, the European Parliament strongly condemned the fourth North Korean nuclear test on 6 January 2016. It described the test as a provocation that was both pointless and dangerous, and as a serious threat for peace and stability. It considered that significant and effective sanctions should be taken by the international community, and called on North Korea to abandon its nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes completely and irreversibly - and in a way that could be monitored. It also called on North Korea for constructive dialogue with the international community, and condemned the systematic, mass and serious violations of human rights, deeming it was time for the international community to take concrete measures in order to put an end to the impunity of the authors and for the authors to be brought before the International Criminal Court.
