Portugal has temporarily banned the import of live French poultry for sale in markets, following the re-appearance of bird flu in France¸ AFP reported on Wednesday 13 January. The decision is effective from 5 January but the measure could swiftly be lifted in light of information from France. Portugal also banned the sale of live poultry in markets in a number of parts of the country that are considered to be risk areas. Since the end of November, 69 outbreaks of bird flu have been discovered in several farms in the south-west of France, the first in the country since 2007. (LC)
