Brussels, 13/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 12 January, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini met Indonesia's Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to discuss the current tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and to coordinate their messages before Marsudi's visit to Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Mogherini and Marsudi agreed on the need to reduce the tension in the region, according to a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS). They agreed to continue cooperating on future initiatives that could help appease the situation, the press release added, without giving any further details.
In the views of Mogherini and Marsudi, “the current tension could have significant negative consequences, not only for bilateral relations, but also for the region, the Syrian process and for the Muslim communities throughout the world, from South-East Asia to Europe”. The two women decided to stay in close contact, according to a European source. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
