A strain of avian influenza has been found in a farm in Fife, in the east of Scotland, the Scottish government announced on Monday 11 January. It confirmed an H5 “low pathogenic” strain of avian influenza had been detected among chickens on a farm in Dunfermline. Approximately 40,000 birds will be culled and a 1km temporary control zone has been established around the farm. (LC)
