Brussels, 07/01/2016 (Agence Europe) - According to the latest figures published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, on Thursday 7 January, the euro area seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate stood at 10.5% and 9.1% in the EU28 in November 2015. This is the lowest rate recorded in the euro area since October 2011.
The fall is still relatively low (0.1% in a month) but it is stable and has been continuing since January 2013. There were few significant variations in these rates between October and November and only five member states appeared to buck the trend. Unemployment fell more than anywhere else in Lithuania (8.4%, as opposed to 8.9%, a month earlier), Slovakia (10.8%, as opposed to 11.1%), France (10.1%, as opposed to 10.3%) and in Italy (11.3%, as opposed to 11.5%). Unemployment in Cyprus, however, experienced a noticeable rise from 15.4% to 15.8% and subsequently confirming a trend first highlighted in September.
The unemployment rate for young people under 25 is usually less linear but in November it appeared to follow the general trend. This rate fell from 22.6% to 22.5% in the eurozone and from 20.2% to 20% in the European Union. (Original version in French by Jan Kordys)
