Brussels, 21/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - The European Union adopted a new aid package worth a total of €112 million on Monday 21 December to support socio-economic reforms and the protection of vulnerable groups in Tunisia, Syria and Israel.
Tunisia will receive €70 million to assist it in its socio-economic reforms and in the tourism sector. The sum of €40 million will help support vulnerable groups, restore the livelihoods of Syrians and support the resilience of Palestinian refugees. Lastly, €2 million will go to Israel to continue the support for institutional twinning projects, which aim to foster cooperation between EU and Israeli peer institutions.
The €112 million package will be funded by the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI). This additional funding brings total EU support to its southern neighbourhood in 2016 up to €1.6 billion. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
