21/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU hails new law on violence against women. The EU has hailed the vote by Algeria's two parliamentary assemblies (the National Popular Assembly and the National Council) on a law “criminalising all forms of aggression, including verbal or psychological, done to wives”. The law “is a real step forward for women in this country”, a press release from the European External Action Service (EEAS) states on Friday 18 December. “The reform of the Algerian criminal code is an achievement that enables the national system to be strengthened to fight against violence to women. It provides an encouraging example for other countries in the region”, the same source added. (FB)
