15/12/2015 (Agence Europe) - Adoption of Council's position on animal health legislation. On Monday 14 December, the EU Council of Ministers formally adopted its negotiating position on a draft regulation on transmissible animal diseases ('Animal Health Law'), which is the fruit of a compromise between the European Parliament and the Council on animal health rules at EU level to complete the Single Market and avoid the spread of infectious diseases. The rules also have the aim of guaranteeing as far as possible that existing animal health legislation in the EU and supporting further improvements of it. The EP adopted its position in April 2015 and a compromise was reached on 1 June. The EP plenary is expected to vote on it in early 2016, and then the Council will adopt its position in second reading. (LC)
