23/11/2015 (Agence Europe) - Three proposals for improving involvement in Better Regulation. At a conference on subsidiarity on Tuesday 17 November, the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) put forward three proposals to advance the European Commission's aspirations in Better Regulation. The CEMR thus proposes that firstly there be more transparency when the Commission's expert groups are put together, which assess the implementation of legislation - thus endorsing a request already made by the European ombudsman. Secondly, the CEMR proposes that the regions and towns not be subject to the transparency register - unlike big lobby groups. And thirdly, the CEMR asks to be more involved in the development of European legislation and impact studies, so as to avoid red tape, for example, and extra administrative costs.
