Bienkowska wants single market in tune with century

Brussels, 07/10/2015 (Agence Europe) - Following a policy debate in the College of Commissioners on Tuesday 6 October on the economic and social dimension of the single market, Internal Market and Industry Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska welcomed the positive comments on entrepreneurship and consumers.

“Today we have brought the debate back to the basics: What kind of #SingleMarket do we want for the 21st century?” she tweeted. “We want a #SingleMarket where professionals can offer services across the EU quickly and conveniently. We want a #SingleMarket where consumers are free to shop around for the best quality, price or service. We want a #SingleMarket where entrepreneurs can innovate and expand, where new business models and services can flourish. We want a #SingleMarket where retailers find it easy to establish, do business and deliver their products across borders”, she stated.

In the course of discussions, numerous cross-cutting issues were raised, beginning with those relating to the social dimension of the plan (see EUROPE 11404). Also discussed were the investment plan for Europe, the digital single market, the capital markets union and better regulation. Proposals for a single market are expected this autumn but the exact date has yet to be given. (Original version in French by Pascal Hansens)
