30/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - EU says priority to elections. On Wednesday 30 September, the EU said that after the foiled military coup in Burkina Faso on 17 September it would like priority to be given to the swift organisation of democratic elections. “The end of the clashes is an important step towards the normalisation of the situation in Burkino Faso. It enables the transition government to launch the necessary consultation in order to set the new electoral timetable on the basis of broad political consensus”, said the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, adding that “the first objective must continue to be that of organising credible, transparent and free elections as quickly as possible, which will enable the country to equip itself with representative and stable institutions”. The EU election observation mission is still in Ouagadougou and continuing its preparatory activities. (AN)
