New Greek government sworn in

Brussels, 23/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 23 September, the new Greek government was sworn in. The Greek Prime Minister has opted for consistency, as the new ministerial team includes many members of the previous government. For instance, Euclid Tsakalotos, who took over from Yanis Varoufakis in July this year, has been returned to the Finance post. His alternate is Georges Chouliarakis, who has held Tsakalotos' position since the elections were announced. The coalition partner, Panos Kammenos, of the party of Independent Greeks, resumes his job as Minister of Defence. The gamble therefore paid off for the Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras: he was able to set Syriza in order and get rid of potential mutineers. These rebels, now together under the banner of the new political formation, Popular Unity, will not be taking seats in the national parliament, as the party did not reach the required threshold.
