Brussels, 22/09/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday 22 September, the European Commission published the list of the 20 projects that will benefit from European funding in the electronic identification domain (eID). Together, these projects will benefit from an envelope of €5.5 million from the Commission. This selection follows a call for tender as part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CF) programme in the telecommunications sector.
This European funding will help EU member states with the roll-out of technical infrastructure to create interoperable, pan-European eID services under the recently completed eIDAS legal framework. Citizens, the public authorities and enterprise will all immediately benefit and be able to access efficient and secure online services.
The Commission explained that with eID, many more activities could be done easily online without losing time and money. eID also helps to boost more secure online transactions. It should also be pointed out that one of the objectives in the digital single market strategy was to improve trust in e-services and ensure interoperability between the different systems.
